A pizza history about me.
It all started while attending college at New Mexico State University. I was just recently separated from my school job and needed something part time while attending college. One summer day while having a drink at a local brewery we decided to grab a slice of pizza and a beer while people watching. Fast forward a couple of days I saw that the NY pizzeria where we had just gotten a slice of pizza a couple of days prior had a now hiring sign. I decided to step in side and was greeted by a high school friend who was working there. Chatted with him and grabbed an application. A few days later I turned in the application and interviewed by the manager. I remember during the interview on what my plan was and why I wanted this job. I responded with “one day I want to own my own pizza shop.” A few days later I was hired and the rest was history from there.
While working in the pizzeria I learned how to make 20inch pizzas and work in a fast pace college environment. From there my love for pizza grew and all I wanted to do was make and eat pizza everyday.
Fast forward to 2020 the year no one will forget. I was forced to work from home and find ways to keep myself busy. So my twin brother and I decided to split the cost of an Ooni oven. I was excited to make pizzas and started watching hours upon hours of videos to learn everything pizza. I soon took a master class from the master himself Vito Lacopelli where my love for pizza went to the next level. Over the next few months I made pizzas almost 2-3 times of week using my Ooni Koda. And what started as a way to stay busy turned into my passion.
Soon after that I started an Instagram to share my creations and soon learned that the pizza community is very strong with like minded at home pizza makers like myself.
While still being in a pandemic I was fortunate to still be able to work a full time job but hundreds/thousands of people were not fortunate enough so I decided during the thanksgiving holiday that I wanted to make pizzas and donate a portion of the money I made to a local organization. I did that and soon I started a monthly pick up where I would share my limited menu online with friends and families and picked a new local organization to donate to. In my first year of my pizza picks up we were able to donate close to $600 to different local organizations. I was also able to coin the term from a local supporter of mine “Doughnation,” which I think is a wonderful name for what I do.
I eventually knew that I wanted to share my pizza with a wider range of people and started a YouTube channel in January of 2021 where I make pizzas/reviews/tips using a go pro camera in a POV/first person view.
